STONECROFT BIBLE STUDIES
The Bible is divided into two sections: the old Testament (39 books) and the New
Testament (27 books). The life of Jesus Christ ties these two together.
WHAT IS THE OLD TESTAMENT?
The Old Testament contains God's Word that was given to people hundreds of years
before Jesus was born on earth. The Bible begins by explaining the creation of
the universe and the history of Israel, God's chosen people. This information
coincides with archeology and other sources of recorded history.
WHO IS JESUS CHRIST?
Jesus means Savior, and Christ means Messiah or Anointed One. Jesus, the Son of
God, is God in human form. He proved this truth by living the perfect life,
dying on the cross for mankind's sin, and rising from the dead.
WHAT IS THE NEW TESTAMENT?
The New Testament tells us about the life of Jesus Christ and experiences of the
people He directed to carry on His teachings after He left the earth.
WHAT IS THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE OLD TESTAMENT AND THE NEW TESTAMENT?
The Old Testament was written before Jesus Christ came to earth. During this
time, God communicated to man through prophets. (
Isaiah
46:9-11) Many prophecies foretold the coming of Jesus Christ and His
activities here on earth. These prophecies were revealed in the Old Testament
are fulfilled in the New Testament. More than 300 Old Testament prophecies were
fulfilled by Jesus Christ. For example, Jesus was born in Bethlehem (
Michah
5:2;
Matthew 2:1) and was a descendent of King David. (
Jeremiah
23:5;
Luke 3:23, 31)
