Evangelism  by Geneva Vollrath

It’s all about evangelism. That’s our bottom line. The desire of Stonecroft Ministries is to see every age, every stage, every face come to know Jesus as Saviour and Lord. It means we want to do whatever it takes to tell all people about the price that was paid for them on the cross – no matter their age, position in life, or ethnicity.

I love reading in the Gospels about how Jesus related to people and shared how to come into a relationship with Him. Lately, I’ve been meditating on John 3 and Jesus’ encounter with Nicodemus.

Nicodemus was a member of the ruling council. He respected Jesus as a teacher and he recognized that God was with Him because of the miracles He had performed. Jesus challenged him to take his belief one step further. It was not enough to merely acknowledge Him as a God-sent teacher. He told Nicodemus, “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again” (v.3).

Nicodemus was a teacher of the law, but he did not understand what Jesus was saying. So Jesus continued to teach him. He used an example from the Old Testament that Nicodemus would know and understand as He revealed the truth about Himself.

Jesus encountered people at their point of need and related to them where they were. He spoke to Nicodemus as one teacher to another. He met a woman at a well and talked to her about water. He entered a scene of death and grief with a message of hope about resurrection and eternal life.

Jesus has commissioned us, as His followers, to share the good news of the Gospel with everyone, everywhere. As His missionary in your neighborhood and your community, what observations have you made? What are the people interested in? What do they value? Where are they placing their trust? What ideas do they have about faith or what it means to know God?

We seek to relate His truth to those we encounter every day; we need to be intentional and prepared. Let’s ask God to give us His eyes to see the spiritual needs of others, His ears to learn their language, His words and His boldness to share His truth with others in ways they will understand.
